Fairfield is situated on the northern shore of Loch Fyne and has views of the loch and hills beyond. This comfortable Edwardian cottage, situated in the middle of the small lochside village of Furnace, has been recently totally renovated, decorated in relaxing, neutral colours, and is pleasantly appointed with Laura Ashley soft furnishings. It has had a contemporary conservatory added, which makes a light and airy dining space, and many original features have been retained, including the Victorian fireplace in the main bedroom and tiled floor in the hall.
Furnace lies some eight miles south of Inveraray on the Lochgilphead road and boasts a good local pub, the Furnace Inn, within walking distance, and a village store/post office. The village takes its name from the Old Craleckan Iron Furnace that used to produce charcoal in Victorian times.
Furnace is an ideal location for enjoying a holiday in Argyll & Bute: it is a quiet place but is within easy reach of so many interesting areas and activities.
To celebrate the millennium, funds were raised to open the Leacainn Walk, a circular route of approximately 10 miles which starts and finishes in the village. The walk follows the route of the river whilst taking in significant landmarks and buildings associated with the village’s industrial and social heritage. Additionally, from the village, a track, which is ideal for walking or cycling, heads back along Loch Fyne to Inveraray which is only about 15 minutes away by car. It is one of the prettiest towns in Scotland and lies on the shores of Loch Fyne. It has a lovely feel to it with its whitewashed stone buildings, 18th-century architecture and stunning loch views.
Inveraray has a fairy tale castle (home to the Duke of Argyll) open to the public, and an award-winning Jail and Court House, Maritime Museum and Bell Tower. The original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is at Cairndow just north of the town.
There is so much to do locally or within a short drive: Crarae Gardens, Auchindrain Open Air Museum and, not too far away, Oban, Crinan and even a day trip to Mull, home of the famous children's TV series Balamory (Tobermory).
Fairfield is the perfect place to enjoy Argyll's treasures, yet is only about an hour from Glasgow airport.
